Self-driving technology company Kodiak AI has recently announced a partnership with global automotive supplier Bosch to develop a cutting-edge system of hardware and software that can equip traditional big rigs with autonomous driving capabilities.

The collaboration was unveiled at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, showcasing the potential to accelerate the integration of Kodiak’s self-driving technology into a wider range of trucks.

Kodiak specializes in the development of self-driving trucks for various industries, including highway transportation, industrial applications, and defense purposes. The company has already engineered a sophisticated self-driving system featuring redundant components for braking, steering, sensors, and computer systems. In early 2025, Kodiak made headlines by launching driverless deliveries for Atlas Energy Solutions in the Permian Basin of West Texas and eastern New Mexico.

Having successfully deployed several self-driving trucks for Atlas Energy, Kodiak aims to expand its reach and impact within the trucking industry. Following a merger with Ares Acquisition Corporation II in September 2025, the company is now focused on scaling its autonomous driving technology for widespread adoption.

In collaboration with Bosch, Kodiak will concentrate on creating redundant platforms capable of transforming conventional semi trucks into autonomous vehicles, regardless of the original manufacturer. Bosch will provide Kodiak with a range of essential hardware components, including advanced sensors and vehicle actuation technologies like steering systems. These components can be seamlessly integrated into the production line or added by a third-party upfitter at a later stage, offering flexibility and scalability for truck owners.

Don Burnette, the founder and CEO of Kodiak, expressed his optimism about the partnership with Bosch, emphasizing the importance of modularity, serviceability, and seamless integration for the commercial success of autonomous driving solutions. By leveraging Bosch’s expertise in production-grade hardware, Kodiak aims to revolutionize the autonomous trucking industry and pioneer the next generation of driverless transportation.

Paul Thomas, the president of Bosch in North America and Bosch Mobility Americas division, views the collaboration as a strategic opportunity for growth in the autonomous vehicle sector. Thomas highlighted the significance of supplying production-grade hardware to enable the advancement of autonomous trucking alongside Kodiak, emphasizing the real-world insights gained from Kodiak’s operational experience with driverless trucks.

While Kodiak and Bosch are committed to expanding their presence in the autonomous driving market, the timeline for implementing these new systems remains uncertain. Both companies have yet to provide a specific timeframe for the production and availability of their advanced autonomous driving solutions.
