User Representatives Criticize Product Bundling Practices
Representatives from the VOICE association have raised concerns about the bundling of products by certain companies, resulting in significant cost increases for user companies. The current trend involves bundling previously separate products into packages, limiting the availability of individual products. This forces customers to purchase entire bundles, even if they do not require all the products included.
Issues with Broadcom’s Pricing Policy
VOICE representatives have specifically called out Broadcom for their pricing strategy, citing that bundle prices are determined based on high demand products. This means that customers may have to purchase more licenses for certain products, even if they do not need them. For instance, if a customer requires more licenses for server virtualization than storage virtualization, they still have to purchase the same amount of network licenses.
Furthermore, the association highlighted the negative effects of bundling, stating that the pressure to buy more products than necessary results in both a qualitative and quantitative bundling effect. Customers are compelled to acquire more licenses than needed, leading to an unnecessary financial burden.

VOICE’s Critique of Broadcom’s Business Practices
VOICE has also called out Broadcom for their business tactics, particularly in pressuring customers with expiring license agreements. Customers are reportedly given inadequate time for negotiation or renewal options as agreed upon in contracts. Additionally, the provider intentionally delays responses to inquiries, leaving customers with minimal time to meet Broadcom’s deadlines.
As a result of these unfair practices, VOICE has taken steps to file a complaint with the EU Commission. Robin Kaufmann, VOICE’s managing director, emphasized the importance of fair competition in the software and cloud market, urging for action against such practices by large providers.
Those who wish to support VOICE in combating Broadcom’s unfair practices are encouraged to reach out to the association for further information and assistance.
