Legrand Enters Open Hardware Arena with OCP-Aligned Products

Legrand, a renowned multinational specializing in electrical and digital infrastructure solutions, has revealed its latest venture into the open hardware sector. The company is set to unveil a range of products aligned with the Open Compute Project (OCP) standards at the upcoming OCP Global Summit. This move underlines Legrand’s commitment to assisting data center operators in deploying infrastructure capable of supporting AI, high-performance computing, and cloud-native applications at scale.

Rise of OCP Standards in Data Centers

The adoption of OCP standards is gaining traction as data center operators seek alternatives to traditional vendor-specific models that can hinder procurement processes and restrict flexibility. Open Compute designs offer a solution to reduce vendor lock-in, enhance efficiency, and promote innovation by standardizing core hardware components across the industry. Market experts predict a significant surge in demand, with IDC forecasting data center spending on OCP-recognized equipment to reach $73.5 billion by 2028, up from $41 billion in 2024.

Legrand’s OCP-Compliant Product Expansion

For Legrand, venturing into OCP infrastructure presents both an opportunity and a strategic response to market dynamics. The company will showcase a lineup of ORV3-compliant products slated for release next year. These include a 33kW power shelf with integrated Xerus firmware, a vertical DC busbar in multiple amperage variants, and a robust rack system capable of supporting heavy loads. This expansion complements Legrand’s existing data center portfolio, which features track busway systems, heat exchangers, and serial routers, catering to diverse infrastructure needs.
