Meta Announces Layoffs at Reality Labs: 10% Workforce Reduction Planned

Meta is reportedly preparing to reduce its workforce by approximately 10% within its Reality Labs division, as per a report from The New York Times. This division, comprising around 15,000 employees and central to Meta’s metaverse technologies, operates with augmented and virtual reality, including VR headsets and a VR-centric social platform. The layoffs are part of a strategic shift towards advancing artificial intelligence, according to sources familiar with the discussions.

The Reality Labs division of Meta, responsible for cutting-edge metaverse technologies, is set to undergo a workforce reduction of about 10%, as per a report from The New York Times. This division, which employs around 15,000 individuals, is a key player in Meta’s augmented and virtual reality endeavors, including the development of VR headsets and a VR-based social network. The layoffs are part of Meta’s renewed focus on next-generation artificial intelligence technologies, as reported by sources familiar with the internal discussions.
