The ongoing discussions regarding the environmental impact of data centers are reaching new heights. Nowadays, it’s common to stumble upon AI-generated content online and encounter comments expressing concerns about the water consumption associated with that content. While determining the exact figures may be challenging, it’s evident that data centers’ power demands have significantly risen in recent times. In North America, the power consumption of data centers surged from 2,688 megawatts in 2022 to 5,341 megawatts in 2023, largely due to the adoption of generative AI.

The conversations around data centres’ environmental impact are becoming increasingly prominent. While pinpointing exact figures can be tricky, the power requirements of data centres have undeniably surged in recent years.
