Unfortunately, the all-electric Ram 1500 REV pickup truck has met its demise. However, fear not, as the extended-range Ram 1500 REV, previously known as the Ramcharger, is here to take its place.

Stellantis, the company behind Ram, announced on Friday that they will no longer be pursuing the development of a battery-electric full-size pickup. The decision was influenced by the low demand for such vehicles in the market.

According to Stellantis, the company is shifting its product strategy in response to the sluggish demand for full-size battery-electric trucks in North America. As a result, they have decided to discontinue the development of a full-size BEV pickup and instead focus on the Ram 1500 REV (formerly Ramcharger), which promises to deliver exceptional range, towing capability, and payload performance in the half-ton segment.

The shift in focus may seem confusing, but it comes with exciting prospects. Stellantis is now looking to create an extended-range truck that can achieve an estimated range of 690 miles by combining a battery with a gas generator, a unique approach in the industry.

The Ram 1500 all-electric pickup was initially part of Stellantis’ plan to introduce more than 25 new BEVs in the U.S. by the end of the decade. However, uncertainties surrounding its future have been looming for some time now.

Following its debut at CES 2023 and subsequent showcases, Stellantis started wavering on its electric truck plans. Originally slated for production in 2024, the launch date was pushed back to 2025 and eventually to 2026.

Despite the changes, Stellantis remains committed to commencing production of the extended-range Ram 1500 in 2026.
