2. The collaboration will result in the development of power and cooling technologies powered by Oklo’s nuclear microreactor systems, with a focus on addressing the growing demands of AI and high-density computing environments.
3. The partnership aims to provide sustainable, energy-efficient solutions for data center operators facing the challenge of balancing performance with environmental responsibility in the face of increasing demand for compute power.

Article:
Vertiv and Oklo, two prominent U.S.-based technology companies, have joined forces in a strategic collaboration that aims to redefine the management of power and thermal efficiency in hyperscale and colocation data centers. This groundbreaking partnership, announced recently, focuses on integrating cutting-edge nuclear energy technology with high-performance cooling and energy systems tailored specifically to meet the evolving needs of AI and high-density computing environments.

Under this innovative agreement, Vertiv, a global leader in digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, will work together with Oklo to co-develop a suite of power and cooling technologies driven by Oklo’s revolutionary nuclear microreactor systems. The companies are planning to test their joint technology at Oklo’s upcoming Aurora powerhouse, which will serve as a demonstration site for their integrated energy infrastructure concept.

With the surge in demand for compute power in the U.S., driven by the rapid adoption of AI, machine learning, and cloud services, data center operators are facing increasing pressure to balance performance with environmental sustainability. The Vertiv-Oklo partnership aims to tackle this challenge by harnessing Oklo’s clean, on-site power generation capabilities and leveraging Vertiv’s expertise in thermal and electrical systems for data centers.

Unlike traditional nuclear solutions, Oklo’s advanced fission technology involves compact powerhouses designed for modular deployment. The Aurora power plant not only generates electricity but also high-temperature steam, which can be utilized to support data center workloads as well as cooling infrastructure. By capturing waste heat and integrating it into Vertiv’s custom cooling platforms, the solution aims to enhance energy efficiency while minimizing the environmental impact of large-scale data operations.

In addition to developing advanced power and cooling technologies, Vertiv and Oklo are collaborating to design reference architectures for end-to-end data center builds. This integrated approach is intended to deliver resilient, high-density infrastructure that can be quickly scaled to meet localized demand.

Jacob DeWitte, co-founder and CEO of Oklo, highlighted the strategic significance of the partnership, emphasizing the value it will bring to operators by providing purpose-built power and thermal solutions tailored for AI and next-generation compute needs. On the other hand, Vertiv CEO Gio Albertazzi framed the alliance as a natural extension of the company’s commitment to enabling energy-efficient infrastructure for next-generation data centers.

The operational model of Oklo, where it owns and operates its own power plants, offers added flexibility for clients looking to co-locate power infrastructure with compute assets. This proximity of energy generation to consumption reduces transmission losses and simplifies site planning for operators pursuing edge or distributed data center strategies.

As the data center industry continues to expand in response to the growth of AI and cloud computing, the Vertiv-Oklo partnership represents a significant exploration of how alternative energy sources like advanced nuclear technology can address the evolving power and cooling demands of the sector. Both companies anticipate that this collaboration is just the beginning of a broader industry shift towards cleaner, more efficient digital infrastructure solutions.
