Red Hat has launched a new tool called Red Hat Edge Manager that aims to address the challenges of managing edge devices in industrial deployments. This fleet management solution is currently available as a technology preview and focuses on scalability, simplified management, and enhanced security.
One of the key features of Red Hat Edge Manager is its ability to centrally manage thousands of edge devices, tackling issues such as connectivity, hardware diversity, and operational complexity. It offers policy-based fleet management, proactive device insights, hardened communications with mTLS, flexible deployment options, and lifecycle management for secure onboarding and updates.
Designed to support container-centric workflows, Red Hat Edge Manager is compatible with Podman, Docker, and Kubernetes for managing containerized workloads. It aims to reduce costs, improve control, and enhance security for edge deployments in various industries like retail and manufacturing. The solution’s agent-based architecture ensures resilience and connectivity even in challenging network conditions, aligning with Red Hat’s broader strategy to provide organizations with scalable, secure, and efficient edge computing tools.
