SAN ANTONIO — The landscape of electricity planning, procurement, and delivery is being reshaped by the rise of Hyperscale AI. The surge in AI data center projects is driving utilities, grid operators, and equipment manufacturers to condense multiyear schedules into much shorter delivery windows. At the PowerGen International 2026 conference in San Antonio, analyst firm Industrial Info Resources (IIR) revealed that the US is currently seeing around $2.4 trillion in AI data center development projects. While not all projects may come to fruition, IIR anticipates that the majority will move forward to completion.
