In summary

  • Reports suggest Samsung is working on a new foldable phone for 2026 with a wider aspect ratio.
  • The new device could feature a wider, perfectly square internal display.
  • This ‘Wide Fold’ model may arrive before Apple’s anticipated entry into the foldable market.

A recent report from ETNews indicates that Samsung is gearing up to release two large foldable phones in 2026 following the success of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

One of these upcoming foldable devices is rumored to be the ‘Wide Fold’, designed to compete with Apple’s future foldable offering.

The ‘Wide Fold’ is said to have a unique screen ratio that is wider horizontally when unfolded, creating a more square internal display.

This move by Samsung mirrors similar strategies employed by Google with their Pixel Fold models and aligns with rumors about Apple’s future foldable device.

Implications of the ‘Samsung Wide Fold’

The decision to release two large foldable phones with subtle differences in aspect ratio may seem unconventional, but Samsung likely has additional features planned to set the ‘Wide Fold’ apart.

Details are still being finalized, but Samsung aims to have a clear strategy in place by the end of this month or early October.

It’s worth noting that Samsung is also rumored to launch a limited edition double-foldable Galaxy TriFold in November, showcasing their commitment to innovation in the foldable market.

With Apple poised to enter the foldable market in the near future, Samsung is strategically positioning itself to maintain its lead and stay ahead of the competition.
