Start Campus Achieves OCP Ready™ Certification for Hyperscale Data Centres in Southern Europe
Start Campus has become the pioneer in Southern Europe by being the third and fourth data centres in Europe to receive the prestigious OCP Ready™ certification. This certification highlights Start Campus’ dedication to open standards, sustainability, and scalable digital infrastructure.
The OCP Ready™ certification, awarded by the Open Compute Project Foundation, signifies that SIN01 and SIN02 meet the highest standards for hyperscale data centres and AI/HPC workloads. This certification provides a competitive advantage by ensuring faster deployments, reduced total cost of ownership, and seamless integration with cutting-edge technologies like AI and high-performance computing (HPC). The facilities are designed with openness, modularity, and interoperability in mind, delivering superior energy efficiency and environmental leadership.
Ensuring Compliance with OCP Ready™ Standards
Start Campus underwent a detailed assessment to achieve OCP Ready™ certification for its operational SIN01 and planned SIN02 facilities. The assessment covered critical factors such as logistics, site access, security, base building infrastructure, and network connectivity. These assessments ensure that the facilities meet the specific needs of hyperscale companies and adhere to OCP standards and industry best practices.
Rob Dunn, CEO of Start Campus, expressed, “OCP Ready™ certification means our clients can confidently deploy advanced compute infrastructure, knowing it is future-proofed. This achievement is not only a milestone for Start Campus but also a win for companies looking to secure their future in Europe with readily available large-scale data centres.”
Sustainable Infrastructure for the Future
Located in the southwestern edge of Europe, SINES DC is one of the continent’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. The SIN01 facility, operational since Q4’24, delivers up to 26 MW of IT capacity, while SIN02, set for delivery in 2026, will add another 180 MW. Both facilities are part of Start Campus’s 1.2 GW SINES Data Campus, designed to support AI-native workloads, liquid cooling, and high-density compute environments.
Powered by 100% renewable energy and featuring an innovative seawater cooling system, SIN01 and SIN02 operate at an industry-leading Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.1 and Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) of 0. These metrics demonstrate Start Campus’ commitment to environmental responsibility without compromising performance.
Recognition from OCP Foundation
The certification of Start Campus’ SIN01 and SIN02 facilities as OCP Ready™ for Hyperscale marks a significant moment for the European data centre landscape. The alignment with the new v2 specifications showcases how strategic facility design can meet the evolving demands of hyperscale deployments. This certification highlights the technical excellence and alignment with the OCP Community’s vision of efficient and scalable data centre environments.
Start Campus’s OCP Ready™ v2 certification not only showcases technical excellence but also aligns with the OCP Community’s vision of interoperable, efficient, and scalable data centre environments. The facilities demonstrate how global standards can be deployed locally to accelerate digital infrastructure and support the next generation of AI and cloud-native workloads.
