OpenAI has disclosed that it is testing out ads in its ChatGPT AI chatbot.
The company shared in a blog post that it is rolling out ads to specific logged-in users on the Free and Go subscription tiers in the US.
American users on the ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education tiers will not encounter these ads.
The ads will not influence ChatGPT’s answers and user conversations will not be shared with advertisers.
OpenAI has stated that the purpose of these ads is to assist in providing broader access to enhanced ChatGPT features.

According to OpenAI, ads will help in maintaining the speed and reliability of the Free and Go tiers, which require significant infrastructure and ongoing investment.
How to disable ads on ChatGPT
If you prefer not to see ads in your AI assistant, there are a couple of options available. You can upgrade to the Plus or Pro tiers, or you can opt out of ads in the Free tier, though this may result in fewer daily free messages.
In a previous statement, the company hinted at its move into advertising by outlining its guiding principles.
OpenAI assures that ChatGPT ads will always be clearly marked as sponsored content and visually distinct from the chatbot’s responses. The nature and content of the ads will be based on topics you have discussed with ChatGPT or ads you have engaged with previously.
The company gives an example of displaying meal kit or grocery delivery ads to users who have shown interest in recipes.
OpenAI emphasizes that ads will only be shown to adults aged 18 and above and will not be related to sensitive or regulated topics such as health, mental health, or politics.
