Summary:
1. BCG found that only five percent of companies are successfully achieving bottom-line value from AI investments.
2. Future-built companies are outperforming laggards by focusing on reshaping core business workflows and investing in talent.
3. The key to success lies in strong leadership, upskilling the workforce, and embracing agentic AI to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving landscape.

Title: How Future-Built Companies Are Winning the AI Race

Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has recently uncovered a significant disparity in the AI landscape, with only five percent of companies successfully generating value from their AI investments. This elite group, known as “future-built” organizations, are pulling away from the majority of firms that are struggling to see any material gains despite significant investments in AI technology.

The secret to the success of future-built companies lies in their approach to AI. Rather than simply automating processes, these organizations are focused on reshaping and reinventing core business workflows to drive revenue growth and improve operational efficiency. This strategic mindset has enabled them to generate 1.7 times more revenue growth and 1.6 times higher EBIT margins than their lagging counterparts.

One key differentiator for future-built companies is their investment in talent. Rather than fearing job losses due to AI implementation, these organizations are aggressively upskilling their workforce to collaborate effectively with AI technologies. They involve employees in the process of co-designing workflows, ensuring smoother adoption and building trust within the organization.

In addition, future-built companies are embracing agentic AI, a combination of predictive and generative capabilities that allow AI systems to “reason, learn, and act autonomously” with minimal human input. By prioritizing customer experience use cases for AI agents, these organizations are staying ahead of the curve and driving innovation in their respective industries.

Overall, the path to success in the AI landscape requires a fundamental shift in mindset and organization. Future-built companies are setting the pace by focusing on people and processes, rather than just algorithms. As the technology continues to evolve, firms that fail to act decisively risk being left behind in an increasingly competitive market.
