Key Visit to Kao Data’s Harlow Campus to Assess AI Growth Zones
Senior officials from the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology, along with representatives from various Whitehall departments, recently visited Kao Data’s Harlow campus to evaluate the critical power, cooling, and connectivity requirements necessary for the success of the UK’s AI Growth Zones (AIGZs).
Collaboration with Leading Technology Companies
Organized in collaboration with Arm, Nvidia, Nscale, and Ciena, the field trip provided delegates with insights into the AI development lifecycle and the essential role that industrial-scale data centers, such as Kao Data’s facilities, play in supporting the Government’s AI Opportunities Action Plan.
Focus on Infrastructure and Innovation
Delegates toured existing data centers and viewed the construction progress on Kao Data’s upcoming liquid-cooled facility designed for high-density AI workloads. Presentations from industry leaders emphasized the importance of low-latency fiber, advanced CPU and GPU architectures, and scalable data center design in securing the UK’s long-term leadership in AI.
Overall, the visit highlighted the need for policy reform in areas such as energy, copyright, and AI parameters to fully realize the economic potential of the AI Opportunities Action Plan. Collaboration between Kao Data, NVIDIA, Nscale, and other partners aims to create a scalable, sovereign AI ecosystem that can compete globally while driving innovation and economic growth within the UK.
