Unveiling the OnePlus Pad Lite: A Nearly Perfect Budget Tablet
SHARE
The OnePlus Pad Lite is a budget-friendly tablet that offers a smooth 90Hz display, excellent battery life, and clean OxygenOS software. While it excels in everyday tasks like streaming and light gaming, it falls short in technical specs compared to its competitors. The tablet lacks a fingerprint scanner, has a slightly dim screen, and features awkward speaker placement.

Design & Build

The Pad Lite features a sleek and sturdy design with a matt ‘Aero Blue’ finish that resists fingerprints. It is slightly heavier than other tablets but feels comfortable to hold. The absence of a fingerprint sensor is a downside, and the tablet’s facial recognition is not secure enough for sensitive tasks. The lack of a headphone jack is disappointing, although the Bluetooth connection is reliable.

Screen & Speakers

The tablet boasts a 1920 x 1200 LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate, providing smooth scrolling. However, it falls short in brightness compared to competitors like the Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2. The four-speaker setup offers decent audio quality but suffers from odd placement that can be covered by hands in landscape mode.

Specs & Performance

Powered by a MediaTek Helio G100 chipset and 8GB of RAM, the Pad Lite handles tasks smoothly, including light gaming and multitasking. The Open Canvas multitasking feature allows two apps to run simultaneously, enhancing productivity. However, the tablet lacks expandable storage and is limited to 128GB of internal space.

Cameras

The tablet’s basic 5MP front and rear cameras provide passable image quality for casual use. While the color balance is decent, the lack of detail and poor zoom performance limit its capabilities. The front camera is suitable for video calls but lacks depth and clarity for photography.

Battery Life & Charging

With a 9,340mAh battery, the Pad Lite offers all-day battery life but disappoints in charging speed. The included 12W charger is slow, requiring close to two hours for a full charge. OnePlus offers an optional 80W charger for faster charging but it is not included in the box.

Software & Apps

The tablet runs OxygenOS based on Android 15, delivering a clean and minimal software experience. Pre-installed apps are minimal, and the tablet benefits from cross-device features for OnePlus users. The Kids Mode feature provides parental controls for families.

Price & Availability

The OnePlus Pad Lite is available in two configurations, with the 6GB RAM + 128GB Wi-Fi model priced at £199 and the 8GB RAM + 128GB LTE variant at £229. Pre-orders are open on the OnePlus UK website, with the tablet releasing on August 14. The tablet is not available in the US initially.

Should you buy the OnePlus Pad Lite?

The OnePlus Pad Lite is a competent budget tablet with a smooth display, long battery life, and clean software. However, it falls short in certain areas like screen brightness, expandable storage, and missing features like a fingerprint scanner. While it may appeal to OnePlus users seeking integration, it faces tough competition from lower-priced options and more well-rounded mid-range tablets.
