Waymo made an exciting announcement on Tuesday about expanding its vehicle fleet to Denver and Seattle. The company will introduce the Jaguar I-Pace SUV and the Zeekr van in these cities, marking a significant step in its nationwide expansion efforts.
Initially, the vehicles will be operated manually before transitioning to autonomous testing. Waymo aims to offer robotaxi services in Denver next year and in the Seattle metropolitan area once permitted. These cities will provide unique challenges with extreme weather conditions, allowing Waymo to fine-tune its technology in snow, wind, and rain.
Denver and Seattle are the latest additions to Waymo’s growing list of operational locations in the U.S. The company currently has over 2,000 robotaxis in its commercial fleet nationwide, with significant presence in cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, and Atlanta. Future plans include launching services in Dallas, Miami, and Washington, D.C., with recent approval for testing in New York City.
In addition to these cities, Waymo has explored other locations through “road trips” to places such as Philadelphia and upcoming trips to Las Vegas, San Diego, Houston, Orlando, and San Antonio.
