Why This Fund’s $15.7 Million Dump of QQQ Shares Could Signal a Strong Bullish Trend in Tech

Summary:

  1. Amplius Wealth Advisors sold 27,345 shares of the Invesco QQQ Trust for an estimated $15.7 million based on the average price for the third quarter.
  2. The reduction in the QQQ stake now represents 2.3% of Amplius Wealth Advisors’ 13F AUM at the end of the third quarter.
  3. Despite the sale, Amplius Wealth Advisors retains significant exposure to QQQ through its flagship Amplius Aggressive Asset Allocation ETF (AAAA).

Amplius Wealth Advisors recently disclosed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it had sold 27,345 shares of the Invesco QQQ Trust, amounting to an estimated $15.7 million trade based on the average price for the third quarter. This move marks a reduction in the QQQ stake, which now represents 2.3% of the firm’s 13F AUM at the end of the quarter. However, Amplius Wealth Advisors still maintains meaningful exposure to QQQ through its flagship Amplius Aggressive Asset Allocation ETF (AAAA), which holds 12.7% of assets in QQQ and remains the firm’s top holding.

The sale of Invesco QQQ Trust shares by Amplius Wealth Advisors appears to be part of a tactical rebalancing effort rather than a significant pivot away from growth investments. While the firm trimmed its stake in QQQ and other growth-heavy funds, it also added to USTB, a short-term bond ETF, indicating a strategy to temper volatility following a strong run-up in growth equities. Despite the reduction in QQQ shares, Amplius Wealth Advisors’ long-term bullishness on large-cap tech remains intact, as evidenced by the continued significant exposure through AAAA. This move emphasizes the importance of managing risk while staying committed to growth investments, showcasing the firm’s disciplined approach in navigating market trends.
