AzInTelecom, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan’s Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON), has recently partnered with a global technology provider specializing in edge AI, cloud infrastructure, network services, and cybersecurity in a strategic move to enhance digital sovereignty and accelerate cloud adoption in the region.

This collaboration marks the technology provider’s first venture into the South Caucasus region and aims to establish sovereign cloud infrastructure tailored to Azerbaijan’s national data regulations and digital transformation objectives. The partnership has led to the launch of a sovereign cloud platform called AzInCloud, which is already operational and catering to customers in Azerbaijan. The platform offers secure, low-latency cloud solutions that comply with the country’s regulations while supporting the digital infrastructure needs of the public and private sectors.

AzInCloud, structured as a public cloud platform, follows a pay-as-you-use model and is accessible to individuals, startups, small and medium-sized businesses, government institutions, and entrepreneurs. It features a range of enterprise-grade cloud capabilities, including real-time monitoring, simplified cloud management, various operating systems, and a cloud marketplace for services and applications. These features are expected to contribute to Azerbaijan’s efforts to promote a digital-first economy and reduce reliance on foreign data infrastructure.

Digital sovereignty is a key focus of this partnership, with Gcore CEO Andre Reitenbach emphasizing the importance of providing Azerbaijan with complete control over its digital infrastructure through a sovereign cloud solution. This initiative is seen as crucial for ensuring long-term resilience and trust in digital services. AzInTelecom’s Chief Commercial Officer, Farrukh Farajullayev, expressed the platform’s role in driving digital transformation across all sectors in Azerbaijan, highlighting the collaboration with the European technology company as a significant milestone for the country.

Founded in Luxembourg in 2014, the technology provider has a global IT network spanning more than 50 cloud locations and 180 edge nodes across six continents. With a backbone capacity exceeding 200 Tbps and a presence in Tier III and Tier IV data centers, Gcore offers a highly responsive and reliable cloud network in Europe, Africa, and Latin America. This partnership not only aligns with Azerbaijan’s ambition to become a regional tech hub but also reflects a broader trend towards national-level control over cloud infrastructure for data privacy, regulatory compliance, and geopolitical autonomy.

In conclusion, the partnership between AzInTelecom and the global technology provider signifies a significant step towards enhancing digital sovereignty and cloud adoption in Azerbaijan, setting the stage for a more secure and compliant digital infrastructure that supports the country’s digital transformation goals.
