Google Partners with Elementl Power for Advanced Nuclear Energy Projects
In a strategic move to secure clean and reliable power for its expanding data center operations, Google has announced a partnership with Elementl Power, an independent developer specializing in advanced nuclear energy projects. This collaboration aims to accelerate the deployment of next-generation nuclear power by providing early-stage development funding for three proposed nuclear sites, each expected to generate a minimum of 600 megawatts of carbon-free baseload electricity.
The partnership reflects Google’s ongoing commitment to achieving net-zero emissions and ensuring a stable energy supply for its growing infrastructure, especially as the demand for AI computing continues to rise.
Amanda Peterson Corio, Google’s Global Head of Data Center Energy, emphasized the significance of advanced nuclear technology in meeting the company’s energy needs. She highlighted the reliability of nuclear power in strengthening the grid in key operating regions, enabling Google to meet the increasing digital demands and support American technological innovation.
Data Center Operations
Elementl Power, established in 2022 to attract private investment into advanced nuclear projects, will collaborate closely with Google and regional utility partners to expedite the development of these sites. The company plans to prioritize specific locations for rapid deployment while assessing the required technology providers and engineering, procurement, and construction partners.
