Summary:
1. Indonesia is focusing on AI-led growth, with Microsoft expanding cloud and AI tools in the Indonesia Central region.
2. Local organisations are shifting towards building AI applications rather than just adopting them.
3. Microsoft is investing in workforce training and infrastructure to support long-term digital growth in Indonesia.

Rewritten Article:
Indonesia is making significant strides towards AI-led growth, with a particular focus on developing local capabilities. Microsoft’s recent expansion of cloud and AI tools in the Indonesia Central region has provided businesses, public bodies, and developers with more options to run AI workloads within the country. This move aims to strengthen data oversight and encourage the development of innovative solutions tailored to Indonesia’s specific needs.

At the recent Cloud & AI Innovation Summit in Jakarta, industry leaders discussed strategies to advance Indonesia’s AI ambitions. The emphasis was on local organisations moving beyond basic AI trials and actively designing tools that address their unique operational challenges. These “Frontier Firms” are integrating AI into their core processes to enhance customer experience, streamline internal operations, and modernize workflows.

The Indonesia Central region now offers a range of Azure services to support teams in designing and deploying software. From building data-connected applications to storing and managing structured data, the region provides the necessary infrastructure for developing and running advanced AI models. This includes AI-ready virtual machines for training complex models and services like Microsoft 365 Copilot and GitHub Copilot to streamline software development.

Several Indonesian companies have already leveraged the local cloud infrastructure to refresh legacy systems and comply with stricter data governance requirements. For instance, Petrosea, Vale Indonesia, and digital services providers are using the region for technical upgrades and secure data storage. Companies like tiket.com have even built their own AI travel assistant using Azure OpenAI Service, demonstrating the practical applications of AI in enhancing customer interactions and support services.

To support the adoption of AI at scale, Microsoft introduced Microsoft Fabric to the Indonesian market. This comprehensive platform integrates data engineering, warehousing, analytics, and business intelligence, enabling organizations to consolidate scattered data sources for improved governance, reporting, and cost management. The platform is designed to help teams transition from small-scale pilots to full-scale production with ease.

In addition to infrastructure enhancements, Microsoft is investing in workforce training through its AI training program, Microsoft Elevate. The program aims to certify 500,000 individuals in AI skills by 2026, emphasizing hands-on application of AI concepts in real-world scenarios. By equipping a diverse range of participants with practical AI skills, Microsoft is paving the way for a more digitally skilled workforce in Indonesia.

Overall, Microsoft’s commitment to Indonesia’s digital growth includes a substantial investment of US$1.7 billion from 2024 to 2028. This investment spans infrastructure development, partner support, and talent development initiatives. With a focus on building a long-term ecosystem for secure and inclusive AI development, Indonesia is positioning itself as a hub for innovative AI solutions in the region. As local organizations continue to leverage new data and AI tools, the country is poised for sustained digital growth in the years to come.
