The data, collected from their network and application attack data, as well as their threat intelligence research team and Telegram, reveals some alarming trends in the cybersecurity landscape.

One of the key findings highlighted by Radware is the significant increase in network-layer DDoS attacks in the APAC region. The average number of DDoS attacks per customer surged by 72% compared to the previous year, with the average mitigated DDoS attack volume skyrocketing by 364%. Service providers bore the brunt of these attacks, accounting for 55% of the network DDoS attack volume, followed by technology and gaming industries.

Additionally, application-layer DNS DDoS attacks also saw a substantial increase in activity in 2024. The number of DNS flood queries rose by 93% compared to the previous year, with malicious DNS volume also increasing by the same percentage. The manufacturing sector was the primary target for these attacks, followed by the telecom and energy industries.

Hacktivist campaigns also intensified in 2024, marked by retaliation and disruption. Political and ideological tensions fueled these cyberattacks, with government institutions being the top hacktivist targets, followed by education and finance sectors. Globally, the total number of hacktivist-claimed DDoS attacks increased by 20% between 2023 and 2024.
