Introducing the Vertiv PowerDirect Rack: A High-Density Power System Solution for AI and HPC Environments

The Vertiv PowerDirect Rack has recently been unveiled by Vertiv, offering data centres a resilient 1U high-density 50V DC power system shelf specially designed to meet the demands of AI and high-performance computing (HPC) environments. This innovative modular system allows for scalability up to 132kW per rack by integrating multiple power shelves, enabling expansion without taking up excessive space. Available worldwide, the Vertiv PowerDirect Rack provides a comprehensive infrastructure power solution, boasting twice the power capacity in the same footprint compared to other alternatives.

Enhancing Power Efficiency and Scalability

Designed to maximize power efficiency and facilitate easy scalability, the Vertiv PowerDirect Rack is ideal for data centres seeking to optimize performance. Tailored for Open Compute Project (OCP) ORv3 High Power Rack (HPR) environments, this power system delivers high-density power while minimizing energy wastage and simplifying operations. With its flexible AC and HVDC input support, real-time monitoring capabilities, and modular scalability, the power shelf allows for seamless expansion, enabling IT teams to meet escalating power demands without the need for additional rack space or increased complexity, as is common with traditional AC uninterruptible power supply (UPS) setups with separate rectification and power distribution, or lower density DC power shelves.

Benefits and Features

Vertiv’s PowerDirect Rack is built for peak performance and adaptability, offering a host of benefits that streamline power management and enhance data centre energy efficiency. Key features include:

  • Ability to deliver up to 132kW per rack with N+N redundancy, facilitating high-density deployments with a scalable, space-saving power architecture.
  • Achievement of 97.5% peak energy efficiency, reducing power waste, cooling demands, and operating costs.
  • Support for both AC and HVDC input, allowing seamless integration into various power infrastructures for future-ready data centres.
  • Hot-swappable, modular design for uninterrupted operations and effortless scalability as power requirements increase.
  • Advanced power management and reliability, featuring built-in safeguards to ensure continuous performance and prevent disruptions.

The Vertiv PowerDirect Rack represents a significant addition to Vertiv’s extensive portfolio of power and cooling products and services, catering to the acceleration of AI and HPC technologies in data centres.
